Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Disability Benefit

If you have made enough contributions to the Canada Pension Plan and are unable to work due to a severe and prolonged or life-threatening condition, you may be eligible for a taxable monthly payment up to a maximum of $1290.81/month, based on how much you contributed to the CPP during your career. Disability Tax Credit (DTC)

The DTC is a non-refundable tax credit that helps disabled persons or their support persons reduce the amount of income tax they have to pay. As disability is an unavoidable expense, the DTC provides greater tax equity to offset some of the costs associated with disability. See the Canada Revenue Agency website for more information.
 
Income Support Program

If you are unable to take on continuous employment in the labor market due to persistent mental or physical health problems with expected duration of more than six months, or are assessed as having multiple barriers to employment, you may be eligible for income support. Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH)

Available for those at least 18 years old and not eligible to receive an Old Age Security Pension, living in Alberta as a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, with a disability that is likely to remain permanent and the main factor limiting your ability to earn a living.
