Alberta Seniors Benefit Program

The Alberta Seniors Benefit Program “provides a monthly income supplement to federal income sources including Old Age Security (OAS) and Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)”. Eligibility is determined by:

- The type of accommodation you live in,

- Your marital/cohabitation status, 

- If you are 65 years of age or older, 

- Your income (combined with your spouse/ partner’s income if applicable, regardless of their age), 

- If you have lived in Alberta for at least 3 months immediately before applying, and

- Are receiving the federal OAS pension, e.g., have lived in Canada for 10 years.  

Seniors may be eligible for a cash benefit if their annual income is less than $26,965 for a single person and less than $43,785 combined income for a couple. Special Needs Assistance (SNA) for Seniors Program

The SNA program provides payment support to low-income seniors for the cost of appliances and some health and personal supports. 
 
To apply you must be enrolled in the Alberta Seniors Benefit program or submit a Seniors Financial Assistance application, be 65 years of age or older, an Alberta resident, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and not have voluntarily deferred the receipt of Old Age Security.
